Does compressing affect text quality?
No. Text in PDFs is stored as vector data (outlines or embedded fonts), not as pixels. Structural compression does not affect text rendering or searchability.
Why is my compressed file larger than the original?
If the original PDF was already fully optimized, re-saving it with pdf-lib may add a small amount of structural overhead. This is normal behavior for already-lean PDFs and the difference is typically a few kilobytes.
Can I compress a password-protected PDF?
No. The PDF must be fully unlocked before compression. Use the Unlock PDF tool to remove the password, then compress the resulting file.
How many times can I compress the same PDF?
After the first successful compression, subsequent passes yield diminishing returns. The first compression removes most redundant data; further attempts typically change the file size by only a few bytes.
Does compression remove images from the PDF?
No. This tool only restructures the internal PDF object streams. Images, text, fonts, and all visual content are fully preserved in the output file.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no server-imposed size limit since all processing runs in your browser. Very large PDFs (hundreds of megabytes) may take longer to process but will complete given sufficient browser memory.
