How do I calculate a percentage increase?
Use the Percentage Change mode. Enter the starting value in the "Old" field and the ending value in the "New" field. The tool returns the percentage increase or decrease along with the formula.
How do I find what percentage X is of Y?
Select the "X is what % of Y?" mode. Enter the part (X) and the whole (Y). The tool divides X by Y and multiplies by 100 to give the result.
Can I calculate reverse percentages?
Yes. Use the "X is Y% of what?" mode to find the original whole value when you know a part and the percentage it represents. This is useful for finding pre-tax or pre-discount original prices.
Is there a difference between percentage point change and percent change?
Yes, and it is an important distinction. If a tax rate rises from 20% to 25%, it increased by 5 percentage points but by 25% in relative terms. This tool calculates the relative percent change.
Why does adding 10% and then subtracting 10% not return the original value?
Because each percentage is calculated on a different base. Adding 10% to 100 gives 110; subtracting 10% of 110 gives 99, not 100. This is a fundamental property of percentage math, not a bug.
Is my data saved or sent to a server?
No. All calculations are performed locally in your browser using JavaScript. No data is transmitted, stored, or logged.
